Improving In-Store Experience with Accurate Data

K-tuin and iStyle, part of the Midis Group, operate more than 130 Apple stores across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In a highly competitive sector, the key to success lies in deeply understanding the customer: anticipating their needs, improving their experience, and optimizing operations.

The question was clear: How can we obtain accurate real-time data about customer interactions with products and store staff?

The Solution: AI, Digital Twins, and Synthetic Data

The Cliff developed the solution using Atenea Vision, an artificial intelligence system that combines Computer Vision with Language Models (LLMs) to analyze store activity in real-time.

To train AI models with high-quality data, a digital twin of a K-tuin store was generated in NVIDIA Omniverse.

Unreal Engine, Rhino, and Revit were used to faithfully replicate the physical environment, including product layout, lighting, and furniture.

From this environment, hundreds of thousands of synthetic images were generated representing different scenarios: customers interacting with devices, employees handling inquiries, and entry and exit flows. Multiple versions of each image were generated using GenAI, adding more variability to the dataset.

These synthetic data allowed existing AI models to be specialized to achieve superior accuracy specific to customer actions. Additionally, being synthetic data, it accelerated the training of AI models without relying exclusively on real recordings, improving the system’s ability to identify complex and infrequent situations.

Synthetic data allows for control over data bias, respects privacy, and complies with GDPR laws.

Atenea Vision: AI in Action

The system consists of three key layers:

Advanced Computer Vision: Detects, classifies, and analyzes customers, products, and actions in real-time.

Language Models (LLMs): Interprets visual data and provides actionable context (action classification), differentiating between waiting customers, those interacting with products, or being assisted.

Analytics and Reporting Dashboard: Transforms data into actionable insights, providing key indicators such as customer conversion rate, average waiting time. Products with highest interaction. Store traffic distribution.


Actionable Data and Tangible Improvements

Thanks to Atenea Vision, K-tuin and iStyle will be able to optimize their store layouts based on actual customer behavior patterns. They’ll significantly reduce waiting times by reallocating staff according to real-time demand, boosting their conversion rates by identifying key opportunities to enhance customer service and overall experience. Additionally, they’ll precisely measure the impact of marketing campaigns by tracking customer interactions with promoted products.
